Police Cadets

The Cadets scheme is aimed at 13 to 18-year-olds who wish to have an insight into the police and are keen to be involved in a police-orientated youth group working alongside their local communities.

The aims of the scheme are to give young people an insight into the many and varied aspects of policing, to make them aware of the role of the police in society, to develop their character, and to promote good citizenship.

These are some of the activities that cadets participate in during their service:

  • Learning about police procedures and criminal law
  • Team building activity weekends
  • Two three-day expeditions
  • Inspection and drill
  • Crime prevention
  • Local community events
  • Charity fund raising
  • Physical training
  • First Aid

Cadets will visit the different areas of policing such as Task Force, Dogs, Traffic etc. The scheme is also structured to allow attainment within the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme (Silver). Cadets meet for two hours each week, with the exception of most school holiday periods, and regular attendance is expected.
