Your current priorities for this neighbourhood

Anti-social behaviour at derelict buildings in Ashbourne

Issue Date:
Issue was set on 16/06/2016
Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • Officers will be carrying out high-visibility patrols in hot spot areas to identify groups taking part in anti-social behaviour (ASB) and engage with them about the effects of their behaviour on people living nearby.
  • The Ashbourne Safer Neighbourhood Team will be interacting with youngsters to deter them from ASB and to encourage them to take part in diversionary activities to prevent further nuisance behaviour.
  • Anyone who is caught taking part in nuisance behaviour will be advised about how their actions affect others and how it could lead to further involvement from police and partners.
  • Officers will be taking positive action against ASB in unoccupied buildings using new legislation involving civil law working with partner agents to work together to ensure buildings are secure.
  • Police will also be speaking to residents about the work that they are doing to offer reassurance in the community.

Speeding motorists in Ashbourne and surrounding villages

Actions and outcomes from previous priorities

Preventing shed, garage and other outbuilding burglaries

Issue Date:
Issue was set on 04/06/2015
Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • The Marston and Clifton Safer Neighbourhood Team focused on the prevention of non-dwelling burglaries, where offenders target sheds, garages and other outbuildings and steal items such as lawn mowers, tools and bicycles.
  • As part of the crackdown, the team made homeowners aware of the steps they could take to prevent non-dwelling burglaries by increasing security, along with promoting the Operation Illuminate campaign.
  • Residents were actively encouraged to be vigilant and report suspicious activity straight away on 101, 999 in an emergency, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Increased patrols at Sudbury Park

Issue Date:
Issue was set on 04/06/2015
Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • The team carried out increased patrols at Sudbury Park to deter people from dropping parcels for inmates.
  • Officers liaised with staff at the prison to tackle the issue, and also asked residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
  • Residents were encouraged to make a note of the description of the people involved, along with the registration number of the vehicle, as this can assist officers with their enquiries and help bring those responsible to justice.

Safer Neighbourhood Team Sergeants

  • Sergeant 135 Paul Simmons

I am Sergeant 135 Paul Simmons and I have responsibility for this Safer Neighbourhood policing team.

I have been a police officer for more than 25 years, and during my career I have worked in Derby and Matlock as well as in specialist roles as an Officer Safety Trainer, a Firearms Officer on the Armed Response Unit and as a Firearms Instructor.

Our priorities in the Derbyshire Dales are to work to keep our communities safe, and to deal robustly with anti-social behaviour, substance misuse and serious and organised crime.

Residents in the Derbyshire Dales should be reassured that we will continue to use our resources in the best way possible to help protect the vulnerable and to work with partnership agencies to target issues which are affecting our communities.
