Barlborough has become the latest place in Derbyshire to land the title of Neighbourhood Watch Village after more than three quarters of residents have signed up to be part of the scheme.

It’s after the official launch of 25 Neighbourhood Watch schemes in the village, which took place at The Little School in October.

Joye Dobbs, Project and Development Officer for Chesterfield and District Neighbourhood Watch, helped set up the event where she gave a presentation about the initiative, offered safety advice and residents picked up special dustbin stickers to advertise the scheme.

She said: “Barlborough has personified what Neighbourhood Watch is about- a group of residents who have come together to promote crime prevention, neighbourliness, a sense of belonging to a community, and the knowledge that there will always be someone looking out for you.

“This was a very rewarding evening. It was a pleasure to meet with so many residents who share in the same aim of bringing their community together.”

There are plans to launch watches to cover other streets in the area and a further meeting is due to take place on Thursday, January 17, at the Little School.

For more information or if you like to form a watch in your neighbourhood please contact Joye by calling 0300 122 8526 or sending an email to chesterfielddistrictnhw@hotmail.co.uk.
