Safe winter driving event in Allestree

Motorists in Allestree are being encouraged to drive safely on the roads during the winter spell.

Organised by the local Allestree Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team along with other partners, a Safe Winter Driving Event will take place next week on Thursday 24th February between 8.30am - 12.00pm at Park Farm Shopping Centre in Allestree.

The aim of the event is to promote safer driving during the winter months and also to give advice on current regulations on your eyesight and other medical issues.

There will also be an opportunity to try out a brake test reaction device to test your reaction times. Also a number plate eyesight test to determine if you may need your eyesight tested or a change of prescription.

A free prize draw to win membership to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Advanced Drivers and Riders, Institute for Advanced Motorists for a year can also be entered if you complete the brake test.

Officers from the Allestree team will also be joined by the Road Policing Unit, Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Advanced Drivers and Riders Institute for Advanced Motorists and the County Council Road Safety Partnership.

Allestree Neighbourhood Watch along with representatives from Age Concern and First Direct will also be attending the event.

Leaflets and advice will also be available regarding all motoring matters and crime prevention.

Sgt Rachel Frost who manages the Allestree Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "It is our aim to make the roads in Allestree and the wider area a safer place to be for all motorists, we encourage all road users to travel safely and responsibly.

"We look forward to seeing as many people turn up as possible".
