Normanton Road Joint Patrols

Today (Tuesday, February 12), sees the re-start of a joint operation to clamp-down on traffic issues in the Normanton and Peartree areas of Derby.

Our policing Safer Neighbourhood teams and Derby City Council’s Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) have joined forces to tackle a range of traffic issues in the area.

Inspector Becky Webster, who is in charge of policing for the area explains: “As part of our ongoing engagement with the Normanton and Arboretum community, we are working with Derby City Council to deal with the illegal parking and use of motor vehicles on Normanton Road and surrounding areas.

“We are running an on-going, joint enforcement operation in the area to target those that park illegally and as part of this, checks on vehicles will also be completed, on such matters as insurance and MOT.

“Concerns have been raised by the local community and through listening to these concerns we hope to support a safer environment for all road users and pedestrians.”

The operation will see officers from the Safer Neighbourhood teams patrolling at different times of the day with CEOs to address parking and obstruction issues as well as checking that the vehicles are being used legally.

Cllr Jon Smale, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Streetpride, said: “Inconsiderate and illegal parking has been raised as a real issue by residents in Normanton and Peartree and I’m delighted that we our working with our police colleagues in conducting this operation.

“We are committed to keeping the all the streets of Derby safe for pedestrians and road users and operations such as this give us a chance both to educate on and enforce our parking laws.”
