Major route in Derbyshire is closed due to a lorry fire

Posted on 1st December 2016

Police are assisting Highways England and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service on the A38 in Derbyshire after a lorry fire that is causing major delays.

Police received a call at 10.18am this morning to reports of a refuse lorry that was on fire in the northbound carriageway of the A38, near to the roundabout of J28 of the M1.

The A38 remains closed in both directions from Alfreton to the junction with the M1.

It is expected that the road will remain closed into the early evening.

Structural engineers are currently on the scene to assess the damage to a road bridge that runs over the dual carriageway.  The bridge, which is also closed, carries Alfreton Road that runs between South Normanton and Pinxton.
